Take a small pill of volition

Decisions decisions decisions, like a plague, haressing us with every breathe we take. Honestly, after seeing so many people panicking, hearing them stressing out over the errors in making the applications for the universities, listening to their stories of what they are gonna choose, the career prospect, the money involved, every single decision that they made is one that i am gonna have to make too. And yea, it might seem to be an easy one. Heck, its just choosing the courses, what so difficult? NUS even makes it easier, by allowing you to choose the faculty! It seems all so simple, and easy, but the deception is deep.

You see, the decisions one make has its ramifications. I honestly dont know what i am gonna do in the next 10 years or so, but i suspect it might either be something that i like to do, or most likely, a 9 to 5 job that is introduced to you by job agencies. The universities make it seems so easy, so practical, saying how, yes, you will get a job, within 4 months of coming out. Yea, but in all likelihood, it will be something that you are not interested in, and is totally unrelated to the degree course you have taken, unless you took engineering, which is easy to find a job, but the pay is well..not that good.

The open houses were pretty much the same, though the impressions they given me were quite lasting, especially the NTU business school. The vice dean is impressive, and is a very well-versed speaker, as well as the communication studies teachers, which most of them are foreigners. But their social sciences and arts school, their teachers, cant present for nuts. NUS is very very prestigious, their open house much more well designed than the other. And they have a much better campus, seeing that it looks newer, and bigger. So basically, the choices that i have include the following:

  • Biological sciences.
  • Communication studies
  • Business
  • Psychology
  • Applied sciences
Not in any particular order, i am pretty much basing my decision on what i can think i can imagine myself to be still doing the next 10 years or so. Granted, it will change. Like my dad, who took up engineering, and went on to do sales, after being promoted. He actually got a diploma in engineering, and go promoted after a year, but he quit, cause he knew engineering wouldnt get him anywhere good. So he took up sales, and within 5 years, he was a sales manager for a very prestigious electronic company. Its' quite inspiring to hear that, espcially from one's dad. He told me that, yes, it does matter what you are gonna choose now, but ultimately, you will have the knowledge. Its how you go apply, recreate and innovate that makes all the difference.

I'll keep that in mind dad.

Take a small pill of volition, the consious act of choosing. One way or another, i am at the crossroad of life, moving on with new people, and new environment, hand in hand with old friends, and new friends. One way or another, all of us, every single one of us will be able to make it to the next phase, and move on postively in life.
